Monday, June 3 2013

Tacoma is a city steeped in art and culture and the perfect choice for couples who want their guests to enjoy the benefits of a big city while also experiencing the natural beauty of the region. Give your guests a full experience when they travel for your big day, and encourage them to explore all that Tacoma has to offer.

Heart of Glass

With a rich history in the art of glass blowing, the city is filled to the brim with the work of Tacoma-native Dale Chihuly. Adorning everything from museums to bridges to hotels, this is the ultimate locale for blown glass in the Pacific Northwest. Visit the Museum of Glass to view installation pieces and watch the artists from around the globe work in the world’s largest hot shop amphitheater. Take glass blowing classes at the Tacoma Glassblowing Studio and create your own piece of art to take home with you. Enjoy a romantic walk along the Chihuly Bridge of Glass, a 500 foot pedestrian bridge with three awe-inspiring Chihuly glass installations. Guests of the Hotel Murano can view the hotel’s private collection of glass art by 45 artists from 12 countries, where every floor features the artwork of a different artist.

Relaxation and Restoration

While the ladies relax at Savi Day Spa at the Hotel Murano, relieving pre-wedding jitters, send the boys off to LeMay - America’s Car Museum where patrons can view the world’s largest collection of automobiles. Also visit the Chambers Bay Golf Course, home to 2015 US Open Championships, or the Emerald Queen Casino to blow off some steam.

Kidding Around

To entertain the kiddos head to the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium where they can meet the one and a half month old baby Sumatran tiger, pet the sting rays and watch a nearly 4,000 pound walrus perform tricks. Take a picnic lunch and explore miles of gardens and trails around the gorgeous Point Defiance Park. For rainy day activities, visit the Children’s Museum of Tacoma orthe Tacoma Art Museum, and view the work of the legendary artist and children’s book author Eric Carle, creator of the Very Hungry Caterpillar. Children over eight are also welcome to take a glass blowing class at the Tacoma Glassblowing Studio.
