Jenovie Hsia & Brian Hanak

Married and celebrated: The Rainier Club in downtown Seattle

Date: September 4, 2016

IVY LEAGUE SWEETHEARTS: Hailing from British Columbia, Jenovie Hsia attended Harvard to study dentistry. It was in Boston that she first met Brian Hanak, a native of Virginia, who happened to be in her pharmacology class as part of his neurosurgery studies. With a shared interest in the medical field and a mutual passion for travel, cuisine and debate, the pair grew closer and eventually continued their journey together to Seattle, following their professional aspirations.

FULL OF SURPRISES: Unfortunately for Brian, his one free weekend to propose happened to coincide with Jenovie being at a conference in Victoria, B.C. Not one to be discouraged easily, Brian made the journey to Canada on no sleep and surprised Jenovie. The proposal included a custom-made engagement ring (featuring a stone from Brian’s grandmother’s ring), a spa day for the newly engaged pair and a night of celebration with Jenovie’s family and friends.

THE GANG’S ALL HERE: The couple included many of their loved ones on the big day. Brothers and sisters of the pair participated in the wedding party, while Andy Johnson, a friend of the groom, played a baby grand piano during the stately cocktail hour. David Tam, a friend of the bride, was hired as the wedding photographer. Even Duncan, the couple’s Holland Lop, participated as a flower bunny.

MAKING IT PERSONAL: Jenovie went with different gowns for each of her bridesmaids, tying the varying looks together with cascading bouquets of white orchids, which also served as reception table centerpieces. The bride also brought her touch to the reception place cards, writing guests’ names in gold foil calligraphy that complemented the blush and metallic hues of the dining decor. The most personalized moment, however, was the couple’s reading aloud of their own vows. Despite lots of practice, when it came time for the two to read their words in front of all the people they loved, emotion got the better of them, making the ceremony an unforgettable memory for both.
