When it came time to planning their wedding, Washington natives Kelly Scales and Ryan Blankenship were looking for a compromise. “I really wanted something indoor, formal and elegant,” says the bride. “Ryan wanted to be surrounded by trees away from the city.” Roche Harbor Resort checked all their boxes, including on-site lodging for out-of-town guests. Their scripted invitation suite featured a custom sketch of the resort’s Hotel de Haro and a piece of dusty lavender-hued silk ribbon, a preview of things to come. For the garden ceremony, a backdrop of living roses and buttercups grew behind the couple and their wedding party. Before joining their guests in the sun-soaked reception hall, Kelly and Ryan slipped away for golden-hour photos on a cliff overlooking the sea. As the shadows lengthened, hundreds of candles in the fireplace burned brightly; guests left their seats in favor of the dance floor, and Kelly and Ryan started a new chapter of the journey they began together in 2005.
