On a sunny morning in June 2015, Anna Enger, a photo stylist, and Kevin Richards, an aerospace company production manager, embarked on a 10-day camping trip on their boat, the Catch 22, to the San Juan Islands. As they were cruising by Hat Island near Everett, a loud banging sound led Anna to look overboard as Kevin pushed the boat into neutral. She spotted a message in a bottle, which was “caught” in some driftwood and actually left there by her beau. As she scooped the bottle up to read the message, Kevin got down on one knee, pulled out a ring and proposed. The couple’s wedding date was just a few weeks shy of their 12th anniversary of being together.

The bride’s mother, Julie Borroud of floral design company Bella Rugosa, hand-wrote guests’ names on the inside of more than 100 mussel shells, which were then used as escort cards, while the bride’s brother and best man built a stunning driftwood arch for the couple’s ceremony. “I couldn’t help but be way more into the floral and decor details than most brides, and really couldn’t imagine trusting anyone other than my mom with that aspect of our day,” says the bride. The couple opted for muted white and blush flowers, with hints of blue and a few pops of sunset corals, growing almost all of the dahlias used in the wedding in their home garden. To complete the Northwest nautical feel, the bride and groom opted for a romantic sparkler send-off on their boat, sailing into the night under an illuminated “Just Married” sign.

The couple couldn’t have imagined their big day without their “fuzzy baby” Ivar, a miniature labradoodle. Stylishly dressed in a navy polka dot bow tie, the pup spent the day running around on the beach while the couple took their pictures. For the main event, he was outfitted with a little ring pillow tied to the back of his harness to run the rings down the aisle during the ceremony. As the couple signed their marriage license, he curled up on the bride’s train for a quick snooze before the party.
