Heartfelt Classic Winter Wedding at The Golf Club at Newcastle

Sometimes there are those weddings that come across our desks that do some serious tugging at our heartstrings and this classic affair at The Golf Club at Newcastle is definitely one of them. The beauty of this wedding goes far beyond the polished winter decor and the bride's impeccably regal style. The beauty is in the friends, family and handful of gracious and talented vendors who came together to make this couple's wedding dreams a reality. The beauty is in this couple's determination to live wholly in the face of terminal illness. From the bride:

"By age 30, and never having had any real luck dating, I never thought I would get married. Then in March of 2013, I was diagnosed with mouth cancer.  After surgery and radiation, I was told the cancer was gone and I decided to give dating one more try. Steve and I met through an online dating site just before Christmas 2013. We immediately hit it off and found ourselves talking for hours. In March, we weren't yet seriously dating when I experienced another bombshell with my health. I still had cancer. Without hesitation, Steve offered to take care of me after my next surgery.

Surgery went as well as could be expected and it was a horrible recovery process, but Steve was there through it all. Then in November 2014, we found out the cancer had spread and had become terminal. A few days later, Steve proposed. He said he wanted to spend what little time I had left as my husband.

After deciding on The Golf Club at Newcastle, we saw the photo albums from Azzura and they were incredible. When we met with Tania from Azzura and told her our story, she broke down in tears. From that day forward, she was nothing short of a fairy godmother. Every time I ran into a snag with wedding planning, she was there to help. One of her recommendations was Darrell the DJ, who was instrumental in getting our planner, Wendy Wojcik involved, who also went out of her way to help in any way possible.

The major inspiration behind the décor and wedding design was the time of year. It was nearing Christmas and I have always loved snowflakes. Steve and I chose the colors together because they represented a sparkly winter wonderland.

On the day of our wedding, I was nervous that everything wasn’t going to come together as planned, but everything turned out perfectly. The most special part of my day was having my brother, who has offered great support throughout my illness, walk me down the aisle. After a gorgeous wedding ceremony and a wonderful night of new families, old friends, laughter and dancing, we stepped into the Rolls-Royce and faded into the evening fog."

From Tania Shepard of Azzura Photography:

"Jen & Steve gave me a poignant reminder of how important it is to not only accept challenging circumstances, but to not allow them to control more than they should. With every day there are so many good things available to celebrate, and it's easy to pass over them without either acknowledging or even noticing them. To see this strong, kind, wonderful couple commit to not only a life together but also to making every day a quiet celebration of life was an absolute inspiration."
