Jennifer & Michael

July 16, 2010 at The Edgewater Hotel in Seattle

Three years after a memorable first date and first kiss in Honolulu (the couple rendezvoused at the groom's family's timeshare after months of attempted meetings), Jennifer, 30, and Michael, 29, wed in a tropical-themed celebration. It paid tribute to the place they call home (Seattle), and their favorite home-away-from-home (Hawaii). "Having the ceremony and reception on a Friday night gave guests the opportunity to explore Seattle for the rest of the weekend," says the bride. Table signs named after Hawaiian islands and bouquets, boutonnieres and centerpieces with orchids and birds of paradise made for a fresh tropical vibe without breaking the bank. Cocktail hour on the venue's terrace-with sweeping views of downtown Seattle and the Space Needle-made for a memorable start to the party, and included a customized menu by the Edgewater, complete with demitasse mac-and-cheese cups that paid tribute to the couple's favorite dish to make together. "We'd heard that when sailors saw an event taking place at the Edgewater, they'd cruise up really fast in their sailboats to the tall windows of the Olympic Ballroom, putting on a show," laughs the bride. "It was true, and ended up being a great entertainment factor for guests!" At the end of the night, guests went home on one more happy note: Favor boxes filled with macadamia-nut Hershey's Kisses from Hawaii held favor tags that read, "It all started with Hawaiian kisses." Jennifer, who works for Nordstrom corporate, and Michael, who manages his family's real estate business, live in Renton.
Favorite moment: For pre-ceremony photos, the couple met on a balcony and got teary-eyed. "I wasn't sure if I wanted to see Michael before the ceremony, but it ended up being one of the best moments of the night," says Jennifer. "Seeing each other gave us new focus, renewing our energy for the celebration to come."
