Katie Kazmier and Jon Gunther’s romance was almost derailed by a bio photo (the two were matched on a dating website, but Katie demurred because she thought Jon looked mean; he later defended it as a ‘thoughtful’ expression). But once they met in person, the romance instantly bounded down the tracks as the outdoorsy couple took to adventuring around the world together. During a sailing trip to Australia two years after they met, Jon proposed at sunset, Katie responded by proposing right back; they both said yes.
The duo set out to craft a family-oriented, farm celebration complete with chickens, goats and a donkey at Fall City Farms, marrying outside on a beautiful 70-degree August day. Wearing a custom made, felted merino wool and silk gown by friend and artist Tricia Stackle on the big day, the creative bride designed the chicken-riding-a-bike invitations and spent her wedding morning buying fresh bouquets at Pike Place Market with her sister for centerpieces. True to the day’s joyful, family-friendly vibe, the bride’s mother made burlap table runners and 10 gallons of freshly squeezed rosemary lemonade for beverages; her new mother-in-law crafted wine bottle table numbers and the place cards. After the ceremony, guests supped on a farm-fresh feast and then the newlyweds changed into dancing shoes (Canvas vans) for an evening of dancing under the stars, staying until the last guest left near midnight before taking one last spin together under twinkling globe lights. Jon, a chemical engineer, and Katie, a pediatric hospitalist, make their home in Green Lake.
