Katie & Steve

West Seattle-based Katie, 27, and Steve, 32, have quite the story to tell at dinner parties: The two first met in 2009 at the Vancouver, B.C., airport, where they were both waiting to pick up rescue dogs they had adopted from Taiwan. The dogs were delayed in customs, and soon the dog lovers started chatting. Katie, an event coordinator at Woodland Park Zoo, snapped a photo of attorney Steve with his new pooch, and the two began emailing. What began as a play date for their dogs soon became a date for the owners, and by Christmas Eve of that same year they were engaged. The duo wed in sweet style in Pike Place Market, with ivory bouquets filled with succulents accenting Katie’s tea-length wedding dress and Steve’s gold and black striped bow tie. The reception overflowed with wine, chocolate chip cookies and funny toasts from friends before the newlyweds made a classic Seattle exit, running through the Pike Place Market stalls while their guests waved sparklers.

Favorite moment: “Before the wedding we spent months collecting old Seattle postcards, and at the wedding we asked everyone to write advice or a favorite memory on the card,” says Katie. “They have been mailed to us throughout the year, so we keep finding a new favorite moment as we get little snapshots of the day.”
