Little did Taryn Halleran, 26, know that a Memorial Day trip to Chelan with friends would turn into the weekend she met her future husband, Scott Striegel, 29. Each had arrived with a separate group, but they all stayed in the same house. Upon meeting Taryn, Scott was immediately smitten and, on the third night, went out of his way to make her a salmon dinner with wine. After dating for two years, Scott, a teacher at Arlington High School, planned a surprise birthday trip for Taryn back to where their relationship began, in Chelan. When a limo arrived to take them on a wine-tasting excursion, Taryn, who works at Boeing and plans weddings on the side for her business, Starry Eyed Events, still had no idea that she was on her way to getting engaged. At the third winery, the couple got a private tour of the wine cave, where two glasses of wine were waiting, one with an engagement ring tied to the stem. Scott got down on one knee, and Taryn said yes. The proposal served as inspiration for their wine-themed wedding—which included monogrammed wine corks and wine barrels as podiums. The game-loving couple’s favors were decks of playing cards and a lotto ticket under each guest’s bread plate, and the bride’s parents surprised the couple with wish lanterns to release as night fell. After becoming certified in scuba diving, the Lake Stevens–based bride and groom jetted off to explore the reefs of Jamaica for their honeymoon.
