Place Cards: Apple Ink

Creative stamped apple place cards

It was an oh-so-Washington family celebration when West Seattle couple Chelsea Waliser and Jamie Turnbull were married on August 28 at the Odd Fellows Hall in Eastsound on Orcas Island. The daughter of a Wenatchee apple farmer and a former Apple Blossom Queen (crowned at the 2000 Wenatchee Apple Blossom Festival), the bride naturally considered using apples as place cards, but it was her sister and maid of honor, Erica, who thought up a tattooed twist, commissioning SoDo-based company Diecutstickers.com to design a small, heart-shaped sticker with the couple’s initials, “C + J,” cut out in the middle. Chelsea’s father and stepmother placed the monogrammed stickers onto still-green apples growing in their orchard; apples change colors just before they are ripe for picking, so the stickers blocked the sunlight on portions of the apples, keeping those areas green while the initials turned a bright red. For the big day, wedding planner Rachel Bowes of Finch and Thistle added a leaf-shaped name card to complete the presentation.
