New Rules
Ideas & Inspiration
If this season's weddings were to elect a patron saint of poetry, none would be more fitting than Edna St. Vincent Millay. The spirited scribe preferred the noble beauty and high drama of fall and winter more than April's "babbling," and never followed convention simply for convention's sake. Millay found beauty in unlikely places—from rosemary to weeds—and would have applauded the independent spirit blossoming in Northwest florists and brides.
"I'm seeing a lot of brides who don't want a cookie-cutter bouquet," says Colleen Monette of Colleen E. Monette Flowers in Burien. "They want to strike out on their own and make it unique."
When it comes to bouquets, old rules don't always apply. Nowhere is this more noticeable than in color schemes, which florists say are brighter and bolder this year than in seasons past.
