Sarah Rhoads Photographers We got the scoop from local experts on how to keep yourself flawless on your big day, especially when summer's swelter is on.
- HAIR: Stylist Nona Smith, who often works with famed makeup artist Michael Bride, relies on deep conditioning in the weeks before the big day to seal in moisture. Also, "consider an up-do-it's hard for hair to hold its shape when it's down," Smith says. We love the new Coy Lift Thickening Spray (below, $20), part of a complete line by locals Tom Newell and Alison Etter, to help set the hair. (Insider note: Etter is the owner of Derby salon in Roosevelt.)
- SKIN: For a glowing complexion, aesthetician Meghan Stoller of The Beauty Lounge recommends getting monthly facials three months beforehand. To avoid oily skin, moisturize daily. "It sounds counteractive," says Stoller, whose studio is inside Horseshoe in Ballard. "But your skin starts producing more oil if you dry it out."
- MAKEUP: Makeup artist Kathy Evans, who has a new studio in Kirkland, says blotters and powders keep shine at bay on the day of; she swears by MAC pressed blot powder ($22). "It's great for setting your makeup, and it takes away shine without a heavy powdery feel," she says. NAILS: For a manicure that will last from pre-wedding festivities to post-honeymoon bliss, try out Shellac at Gene Juarez Salons and Spas or Julep Nail Parlors. The new nail polish dries with UV light and lasts for two weeks, leaving you with one less thing to worry about.
