Ideas & Inspiration
Believe what they say: Your wedding will fly by in a blur. One minute you’re saying “I do” and the next you are waving goodbye from the getaway car (probably stopping at the nearest Dick’s, because you likely won’t find time to eat at your wedding). In between greeting each and every guest and throwing the bouquet, myriad smaller but equally meaningful moments are occurring around you. Imagine what you’ll miss: Grandma cuddling her first great-grandchild; a wide-eyed niece spying on the bridal party’s preparations; Dad wiping away tears as you recite your vows. And don’t forget all of those details you spent so much time perfecting: neatly wrapped favors lined up in a row; letterpress programs displayed in a basket; the colorful candy bar—before your little cousins attacked.
Because these once-in-a-lifetime moments are so precious, we consistently remind readers how fortunate they are to have such a wealth of local shutterbug talent to choose from, and encourage them to seek out the best. The award-winning photographers featured on these pages were thoughtfully selected for their artistry and experience. They understand how to capture the special moments between a bride and groom, but they don’t miss detail and candid shots: the beauty of the venue; the craftsmanship of the caterer, dressmaker, florist and other wedding vendors; and the laughter, tears and interactions of the guests. Hiring a great photographer is not only one of the first and most lasting gifts you’ll give to yourselves, it is the first gift you will give to friends and family as a couple. Everyone will delight in seeing those missed, forgotten and especially meaningful moments captured forever. These are the images you will treasure for the rest of your lives together.
(Above) To capture this sweet portrait of architects Megan and Brian Domini kissing in front of Novelty Hill/Januik Winery, photographer Barbie Hull used a wide-angle lens to show the venue’s great design elements as well as the beautiful surroundings. “Keeping my aperture at 2.8 assures that Megan and Brian are the center of focus and lets the background fade into the distance,” Barbie says. “It’s all about the experience. If people are having fun they will love the photos!”
