Whether your guests are coming from near or far, infuse your big day with your meaningful moments and favorite places. TASTE Events is sharing three tips for the best way to do just that:

1. Show your guests what the city means to you.

You’re getting married in Seattle, you and your wedding party will be dressed to the nines, so make sure the backdrop for the big day (and the photos!) shows off your favorite side of the city. Think about places that are meaningful and memorable to you and your significant other, like your first date restaurant for the rehearsal dinner, or your first kiss spot for photos. From out of town? Think about views that are iconic to make your moment pop, like Mt. Rainier, the Space Needle or Calder’s Eagle at the Olympic Sculpture Park. Choose a venue that shows off where you plan to celebrate the big day.

2. Taste of Place: Terroir isn’t just for wine.

Of course you want the food to be delicious, but what if your guests could taste what you love about the city, like your favorite farmer's market vendors or local bakeshop? Select a caterer who works closely with local farmers and ranchers, and plan a menu that reflects the bounty of the region. A city like Seattle is ripe with food trends and surrounded by a wealth of rich farmland and a bountiful ocean. Ask your caterer what ingredients are in season to make your menu pop. Call out the purveyor names on your menu to let your guests know you’re celebrating with your favorite local flavors.

3. Craft is trending, from wine to beer to cocktails.

Do you have a favorite local brewery or winery? Introduce them to your family and friends by featuring them during your cocktail hour or pairing them with your menu. Or, use locally-distilled spirits to give your signature cocktail a homegrown twist. Ask your caterer or wine representative if their list includes wines, beers or spirits produced in the region.

When considering pairings, be sure to offer at least one white and one red during your cocktail hour and for dinner service (and don’t forget about rosé, particularly for summer weddings). Look for whites that are light, crisp, and versatile like Apolloni Vineyards’ Pinot Blanc or Estate Pinot Gris from Oregon’s Northern Willamette Valley; for reds, seek medium-bodied wines that can stand up to heartier fare but won’t overwhelm lighter dishes, like COR Cellars’ Momentum Red Blend or Tempranillo from Lyle, Washington. The regional terroir will naturally complement the flavors of locally-grown ingredients.
